Talley

July 14, 2006 continued from Part One...

The girls had a little nap afterwards. Actually, we all had a little nap. When we got up, we went up to the open-air restaurant to visit with the families who were there. We had Georgia walk, which was a slow, arduous process. She can barely walk. She had difficulty walking up steps, so Tim carried her. We hung around for a long time. Georgia pretty much sat in Tim's lap the whole time, gazing over his shoulder, or looking at her Barbie. She did not make eye contact and was very shy when people would pay attention to her. At one point a Haitian man was with our adoption coordinator and he was talking to Georgia. She was terrified, and started breathing heavily. I thought for sure that she would cry, but she didn't.

Talley is a busy baby and constantly in motion (unless asleep). She squeals with delight and is so happy. I am upset that I cannot bring her home and let everyone see her now. At last I have an easy baby, but she lives in another country. I also dread sending Georgia back to the orphanage. I know that when she is with us, we will be gentle and patient and not expect much from her. I know that we could bring her out of her shell. I worry about my girls the entire time.

Georgia loved eating these peanut butter crackers that we brought. She ended up having quite a few packages throughout our trip.

We enjoyed visiting with the other families--they were all so nice.

We sat at the restaurant for so long that we ordered dinner while we were there--spaghetti and fried chicken. Georgia loved the spaghetti!

I don't really remember what we did after that, but I do know we tried to get online several times and it never worked (we were unable to get online the entire time in Haiti). I remember hanging around the restaurant a lot. Around 7:30 pm or 8 pm, we decided to order more food. Everyone else was ordering and I was hungry (I rarely ate more than a few bites at each meal--between feeding the girls, visiting with families, and dealing with Talley's wigglyness. So I felt hungry again). We each ordered an ice cream (weird--I still haven't decided whether or not I liked it) and a medium pizza (OK). It took about two and a half hours for our food to come (we always had to wait around and hour to and hour and a half for our food to come). We were getting so tired and by the time the food came, I wasn't even hungry anymore. Another couple ordered the same pizza I did, before I ordered. but the waitress told them that the pizza was all gone, and they had to order something else. That was a little weird and a lot uncomfortable. I wanted them to take the pizza, but they wouldn't. We ended up being at the restaurant so late.
