continued from Part Two...
On the way there, we stopped at a roadside market and a few families did some drive-by shopping. I was holding one of the lady's baby girl and she pooped on me. By the time we got to the new orphanage site, she had pooped all over her mom and my leg and tummy. In Haiti, these sorts of things barely phase ya! I just wiped myself off with lots of wipes when we arrived at the new orphanage.
The truck Tim was in got a flat tire and some of the men fixed it in the grassy yard of the new orphanage.
We took a tour of the new orphanage. The first floor is mostly finished. It will be huge when done and excellent for the children and nannies. They also have a bit of land for a garden and some animals. There were special rooms for new arrivals, so that they will not pass on their illnesses or skin problems to the other children. There was a large kitchen and will be over 30 rooms (I can't remember the exact number...it was quite a bit, though). It will be three stories tall. The director of Foyer de Sion and his family will live there, too. It is going to be awesome!
On the way back to the hotel, I decided to have both Talley and Georgia on my lap. It was very bouncy and Tim was having a hard time keeping her from bouncing all over and protecting his rear-end at the same time (his behind got pretty bruised from bouncing around the bed of the truck). I was also concerned about all of the exhaust she was inhaling and it was very hot (Tim got a horrible sunburn). So were really squeezed in the cab of the truck on the way back.
The truck that Tim was in broke down in the middle of the road. Tim and two other of the men hopped out of the back and attempted to push it to get it jump-started. Boy did the Haitians get a kick out of that! I wondered for how many people we would be the topic of discussion over dinner that night. It didn't end up working, because the driver wasn't sure what they were doing, and kept telling them it just needed water. So we pulled a little to the side of the road while they worked on the truck. We got loads of attention while we were waiting. It was getting a little toasty sitting in the truck, no air flow and two babies on my lap, and I was in between two other people.
